Registrations for the 2024 AICCM Textile Special Interest Group Symposium are now open.
We are pleased to invite you to the National Gallery of Victoria in Naarm/Melbourne from
Wednesday 26th to Friday 28 th of June 2024 for this year’s symposium themed Culture Cloth Connection

The TSIG Symposium is an opportunity for Australian and International textile conservators
to get together, share knowledge and make new connections. The three days will be held at
the NGV: International and will be chock full of interesting content which includes:

  • 16 twenty-minute presentations and 6 lightening talks with content divided into themes of history, mounting, analysis, remedial treatments and storage of textiles
  • Special guest speaker Kirsten Lyttle: “Feathers, Fibers and Pixels: The Story of making a Digital Māori Cloak called Kahu Whakaahua”
  • Special guest speakers Mitch Mahoney and Kerri Clarke
  • NGV curators of Fashion and Textiles Danielle Whitfield and Charlotte Botica will present a special introductory lecture to Africa Fashion, an exhibition developed by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and presented in partnership with the NGV.  Link to this wonderful exhibition is here: https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/exhibition/africa-fashion/
  • Tours of new NGV conservation labs with a special presentation on mannequinage (mannequin padding) techniques used by NGV textile conservators and display specialists.
  • A self-guided tour through the Africa Fashion exhibition with the cost of the exhibition being covered by registration fees.
  • The opportunity for two groups of 12 people to tour the new conservation and storage facilities at Arts Centre Melbourne. Tours will run for 45 minutes on Thursday 27th June at either 3.30 or 4.15.  Places on this tour can be booked here and we apologise for the limited numbers that can attend.

Your registration includes all symposium sessions, morning teas (Wednesday-Friday),
afternoon teas (Wednesday- Thursday) and a hard copy programme containing symposium
abstracts. Attendees will need to bring or purchase their own lunches for the three days as well as afternoon tea on
Friday.

Please note that it is essential for all participants including presenters to register.
The conference committee understands that circumstances can change. At any point, prior
to the event, you are welcome to contact us to nominate a substitute delegate. Due to
catering commitments, refunds will not be possible if you wish to cancel within 14 days of
the event.

Don’t forget that attendance at AICCM conferences contributes to existing Professional
Members annual points system for their renewal.
