Abstract
This paper explores digital and traditional preservation through the prism of two metaphors: silos and synergies. The silos provide a perspective from which it is possible to gain on one hand deeper insights into the distinctive features, challenges, technologies and strategies of the digital and traditional preservation worlds. On the other hand, the synergies provide an opportunity for an integrated and holistic approach to maximise preservation initiatives – to align the digital and traditional worlds. Both perspectives are needed.
