As Co-Convenors, we would like to take the opportunity to introduce ourselves, share some of our ideas for the Objects SIG, and hear from members about what you would like to see from the group over the coming 12 months.
Objects conservation is an incredibly broad field, and our members are also geographically dispersed across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and further afield. We know that getting together in person isn’t always possible, so we would like to make greater use of informal online events to help us connect, share knowledge and experience, and hear from people working across different materials, collections, communities and areas of practice.
For this first catch-up, we’d like to keep things relaxed and conversational. Come along to:
- Meet the Objects SIG Co-Convenors and hear a little about us and our approach to the group
- Hear some of our ideas for some exciting SIG activities we hope to share
- Get a preview of our upcoming November event with the Australian National Maritime Museum, including an online presentation on shipwreck archaeology and an onsite activity with the NSW Division
- Tell us what you would like to see from the SIG – topics you are interested in, skills or areas of practice you would like to explore, and the kinds of events that would be useful to you
- Share ideas for speakers, presentations, collaborations or activities – including things you might be interested in sharing yourself
- Meet and connect with other Objects SIG members
You don’t need to prepare anything, and you don’t need to have been involved with the SIG before. Whether you are an objects conservator, student or emerging conservator, work across multiple conservation specialisations, or your work intersects with the care of three-dimensional cultural materials, you are very welcome.
The Objects SIG is volunteer-led, so our members and professional networks are an important part of what we can do. We see the SIG as a space for sharing what we know, asking questions, making connections and drawing on the considerable knowledge and experience that already exists across our community.
So bring a cuppa, your ideas, or just come along and listen. We’d love to see you.
