Cobus van Breda, Senior Paper Conservator, has officially retired from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Over many years, Cobus provided exceptional care and conservation of both the paper and photographic collections, as well as overseeing the complex task of managing the environments within TMAG’s collection and exhibition spaces. Cobus has always been generous with his time, offering support and guidance to colleagues. Beyond TMAG, Cobus made significant contributions to the conservation profession. He was awarded the AICCM Medal in recognition of his more-than-30-year career in conservation and his service to the AICCM and the profession more broadly. He has also dedicated considerable time to the AICCM in both state and national committee roles. As Publications Officer, Cobus led the transformation of the AICCM Bulletin from a print-only publication into a formally peer-reviewed journal available online. He has contributed to numerous publications that have helped share Australian conservation practice both nationally and internationally. We will certainly miss Cobus at TMAG and wish him all the best in his retirement.
