ICS Perth, led by Claire Rowson, State Manager WA, has moved into a new lab space at 3/7 Hector Street West, Osborne Park, WA 6017.

The Osbourne Park site is the next stage of development for the WA team, allowing them to significantly increase their service offerings to the community. With a room for controlled treatments, the team can now work in-house on large outdoor sculptures, large-format textiles and other more sizable pieces.

WA has welcomed conservators Micol Telatin and Masha Berdon, Objects Conservators, and Felix Millar, Conservation Technician, to the new facilities.

Eagle Lectern

Claire Rowson and Lorna Sweetwood, Objects Conservator, conserved the Eagle Lectern belonging to the Chapel of St Mary at St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School, Karrinyup.

The school was very happy with the highly polished lectern.

Ian MacLeod has enjoyed a decade of freedom from bureaucracy since transitioning to private practice. In this time, he has published another 50 papers and has done dozens of confidential reports for clients from museums and from industry. Later this month he will travel again to Bulgaria to continue conserving materials recovered from a 19th century wooden ship that sank in the Black Sea near Sozopol, the ancient city of Apollonia. He will continue working in Turkey with Alice Paterakis, the director of conservation at the Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology in Kaman. This period continues his studies on 3,800-year-old archaeological bronzes, their corrosion mechanisms and their specific needs. At home he continues developing treatments for sea jellies to migrate them out of toxic 10% formaldehyde solutions, and continues to give entertaining talks to Probus clubs and other community-based organisations.
