We all know that conservation is a diverse field, with professionals working across a huge variety of different materials and contexts. Many of us end up specialising in a particular area or more, and that’s where Special Interest Groups (SIGs) come in.
AICCM SIGs are run by passionate volunteer convenors (with help from AICCM National Council and other keen members) and are all about connecting people who share the same interests. They host networking meet-ups, specialist talks (both online and in person), workshops and symposiums, and contribute articles to the National Newsletter.
Current active SIGs include:
- Book and Paper
- Conservation Framers
- Conservation Science
- Emerging Conservators
- Gilded Objects
- Objects
- Paintings
- Photon (photographic media)
- Preventive Conservation (looking for new convenors)
- Textiles
- Time-based and Digital (formerly Electron)
We are also excited to announce the upcoming formation of two new SIGs: a Natural Sciences SIG and a Papua New Guinea SIG (as announced at the National Conference). Look out for more information about these soon.
Joining a SIG is a great way to share knowledge, build expertise and make connections with other conservation and allied professionals. And if you have ideas for future events or activities, the convenors would love to hear from you. Contact details for each SIG can be found on the AICCM website
How to join? It’s easy – just update your ‘Areas of Interest’ in the Directory Listing section of the members portal. Log in, click ‘update my details’, and you’re set! This ensures you’ll get notified about upcoming SIG events and activities. For general enquiries, reach out to the SIG Coordinator at sig@aiccm.org.au
