The AICCM's Preventive Special Interest Group (PSIG) and Sustainable Collections Committee (SCC) in partnership with Deakin University¹s School of Humanities and Social Sciences, are pleased to announce that they will be hosting a 3-day symposium ’Managing Risks to Collections’ at Deakin Downtown, Melbourne from 18th-20th February, 2019.

Jane Henderson (Reader in Conservation, Cardiff University), Joel Taylor (Senior Project Specialist, Getty Conservation Institute) and Penny Whetton (CSIRO) are our keynote speakers. The symposium will explore leading practice in sustainable preventive conservation and risk management approaches to collection care.

The symposium will include a range of presentation formats including papers, posters, lightning talks and panel discussions. Topics will include:

  • Risk assessments — different approaches and uses, how they integrate with other organisational strategies and agendas
  • Preventive conservation strategies — managing functions in collection spaces, disaster response, museum lighting, theft, and pests.
  • Museum environments — environmental guidelines, environmental monitoring and creating sustainable preservation environments. There will also be a panel session on AICCM’s current work in this area.

There will be presenters from around Australia and New Zealand, including industry leaders, international guests, lighting, pest and legal experts.
