Illuminating the new: contemporary practice and issues in materials conservation – 2015 AICCM National Conference

Every two years our National Conference brings together conservators, allied professionals and an international audience to explore the history, materials, techniques and conservation in the field of conservation.

This year’s conference takes its lead from the International Year of Light and is titled Illuminating the new: contemporary practice and issues in materials conservation – 2015 AICCM National Conference and will be held in Hobart, Tasmania, 4-6 November 2015.

The venue is the lovely Baha’i Centre located near Hobart’s historic waterfront. The program kicks off first thing on Wednesday morning with the Welcome to Country followed by a number of lightning talks after which our keynote speaker Sarah Kenderdine will present an overview of her digital projects and opportunities for their use in conservation. Presentations continue through the day before we head off to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery for the Welcome Reception hosted by the director of the museum, Janet Carding.

Thursday morning is packed with two concurrent sessions focusing on research in the specialisations of Objects, Paper, and Paintings. We will break for lunch and hold our annual AGM before attendees spend the afternoon on one of the heritiage, vineyard and Tassie culture tours we have planned (you can register for them here).  On Thursday night the AICCM Awards and Cocktail Party will be held at Hadley’s Orient Hotel where we will celebrate the achievements of our colleagues and enjoy supper and refreshments.

Friday is another full day of presentations and lightning talks with a focus on ethics and theory, preventive conservation and community projects. Special Interest Groups will have an opportunity to meet at lunchtime before the conference wraps up at 5.15pm.
