Registration is closed for this event

Registrations to the 10th Book, Paper and Photographic Materials Symposium are now open. Please join us at Melbourne Museum for four days of conversation and presentations, Tuesday 20th to Friday 23rd November 2018.

Early bird AICCM member registration is now closed.

The Symposium program will include presentations by conservators and allied researchers from Australia and abroad. There will also be three significant keynote speakers and a range of fascinating panel discussions, workshops and tours associated with this event. The Symposium aims to provide a platform for academic papers and discussions on a wide range of issues, with topical sessions including:

  • Revisitation – revisit a treatment, a survey, a research project, a material, an idea, an era. How has it survived the passage of time, and what does that tell us for the future?
  • The Anthropocene – this proposed global epoch is defined by the beginning of significant human impact on the Earth’s geology and ecosystems. What does it mean to be a conservator in the Anthropocene? What materials, practices and systems of the Anthropocene are affecting our work and futures? How will we need to adapt?
  • Black and white – from either a material or a decision-making perspective, there are bound to be shades of grey.

As a special treat for delegates, the wonderful people behind the The C Word podcast have put together a one-off episode examining our conference themes. We invite you to download it here and have a listen, to get you into conference mode!

  • Register for the conference and conference dinner below.
  • Register for the Friday and weekend workshops separately here.
  • The program is available here.

Please note that it is essential for all participants including presenters to register.

Also, the conference committee understands that circumstances can change. At any point prior to the event you are welcome to contact us to nominate a substitute delegate. Due to catering commitments, refunds will not be possible if you wish to cancel within 7 days of the event.

We look forward to seeing you in November!
