It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Graham Clegg on 2nd March 2016 at Crookwell District Hospital, aged 68 after a short battle with lymphoma.
Graham was a long standing staff member (1992-2010) and respected colleague of those of us at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences. Within MAAS he worked largely with the technology collections and as an advisor with the museum’s regional services unit. Graham worked extensively with community museums in NSW and Queensland and regularly led workshops for museum volunteers, machinery collectors and other enthusiast on conservation and the management of their collections.
He was a mechanical engineer with a background in water supply machinery and a graduate of the University of Canberra’s Materials Conservation program.
One of his many contributions to the profession was his publication “Safe in the Shed” for the NSW Heritage Office dealing with current approaches to conservation and preventative measures in caring for historic farm machinery. He remained involved in the profession after leaving MAAS, more recently with the Goulburn Historic Waterworks Museum.
Our thoughts are with his daughters Heather and Jessie and their children.
