At its recent AGM in November 2015, AICCM released updated documents: Statement on Conservators in an Australian Context, and Statement on Conservation Technicians/Assistants in an Australian Context
These documents update previous AICCM definitions, and aim to clarify the role of conservators, technicians and assistants in an Australian context. They describe a range of skills, knowledge and activities required by cultural heritage conservation professionals, and are designed to be used as a reference for students, educational providers, those seeking to contract conservators and other employers. The statements have been developed by the Education and Training Committee of the AICCM and draw heavily on international standards and on Australian position descriptions.
As conservators come to the profession from a variety of educational backgrounds, the importance of the AICCM Professional Membership category is emphasised as a means for the AICCM to formally recognise professional conservators.
