Sandra (Sandy) Cockburn, Melbourne-based conservation framer and frame conservator, passed away suddenly on 28 April.

Sandra worked at the National Gallery of Victoria from 1991 to 1994 where she held an Art Foundation of Victoria position to expand her skills in museum framing and frame conservation.

She was awarded an International Specialised Skills fellowship in 1992 to research gesso work, gilding, frame conservation and documentation, and the display and treatment of frames. Her study was done at the National Gallery, London, and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

After leaving the NGV Sandra established Sandra Cockburn Art Services where she specialised in conservation framing, and frame restoration and conservation for artists, private collectors, art galleries, and public collections. Sandra was a talented and generous person who will be greatly missed.
