AICCM National Newsletter No 159 December 2022

The Book & Paper Special Interest Group has had a busy few months working on a number of projects. First and foremost, the convenors have been busy editing some fantastic papers for the upcoming Book & Paper Special Edition Bulletin, which we are hoping to publish to print in early 2023. This will be the first AICCM Bulletin specially dedicated to Book & Paper research and we are so excited to see these papers be made internationally available through Taylor & Francis. The SIG convenors have also been working closely with IAP to schedule talks, seminars and workshops at Australian- and NZ-friendly times at discounted rates. We have collaborated with IAP on two nanocellulose courses presented by Remy Dreyfuss-Deseigne, a fascinating talk by expert Joyce Townsend on Turner’s paintings and watercolours’ materials and, most recently, a tracing paper course run by Hildegarde Homburger. Working with IAP has allowed us to access a number of high-calibre specialists from a range of fields, and we hope this relationship will continue to grow successfully.

The SIG convenors are particularly happy to announce that we are up to almost 400 members of the Book & Paper Facebook page. When we started the page, we were not sure if it would attract any interest, but it has grown from strength to strength, now boasts a strong following and has proved to be a great way to share information on events happening both nationally and globally. We encourage book and paper conservators to join the group as it is a great platform to share content and seek answers to questions. All contributions to the Facebook page are greatly appreciated as they help us as convenors to gauge the interests and needs of the Book & Paper Community! We are looking forward to a successful 2023 and are already working with the AICCM president on ideas for the national symposium.

It has been an incredible honour serving as your AICCM convenors for the Book & Paper SIG for the past three years. In the coming months, we are looking to pass on the baton to the next generation of convenors. If you have any interest in getting involved as a convenor of the Book & Paper SIG, please get in touch with us via our email
