Registrations for the Conference Delegate Tours for the 2019 AICCM Textile Special Interest Group Symposium are now open.

Wednesday 6th February. On day three, delegates can choose one of two tours sponsored by the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences.

Tour one:   Travel by private bus to the Museum Discovery Centre (MDC) at Castle Hill.

The MDC is a collaboration between the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS), Australian Museum (AM) and Sydney Living Museums. This is an opportunity to see behind the scenes with a guided tour, by conservators Kate Chidlow and Bronwyn Dunn, of the MAAS textile storage areas containing collections such as the Olympic Collection, Collette Dinnigan, Catherine Martin, the Lace Collection and the AIDS Quilt Collection, with their innovative storage solutions.

Cost: $30 includes return transport to Sydney Jewish Museum with a limit of 24 delegates.

Time: Allow 4 hours (9am – 1pm).

Tour Two: Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Ultimo.

Visit the MAAS with Conservator Suzanne Chee and view some great textile centred exhibitions:

•    Akira Isogawa, 2018. Akira Isogawa exhibition features a wide range of garments and outfits, mostly drawn from Isogawa’s extensive archive and is the first to explore his career of more than 25 years.

•    40 Years of Fabulous. This display, featuring costumes by Peter Tully and Brenton Heath-Kerr celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

•    Good Design Awards 2018: Fashion Revolution. Fashion Revolution was established in response to the 2013 Rana Plaza garment factory collapse, which killed more than 1100 people and injured over 2500 in Bangladesh. This global movement calls for radical change in the way our clothes are sourced, produced and consumed, to create a more ethical and sustainable future for fashion.

Cost: Free. Delegates make their own way to the MAAS.

Time: Meet at 10am for admission, then spend as long as you like. Doors close at 5pm.
