Abstract
The properties of polymers are discussed in order to provide a basis of selection for conservation and restoration procedures. The main groups considered are thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers. Other synthetic materials such as fungicides and UV absorbers are also discussed along with accelerated testing techniques as a basis for checking the suitability of a plastic for a particular conservation problem.
