Conservation of Rock Art. Proceedings of the International Workshop on the Conservation of Rock Art, Perth, September 1977 (1978), pp. 66-68

Abstract

Rock art conservation in South Africa has seen a significant change from an essentially intuitive approach to a scientific investigation. This paper describes the work being undertaken by members of the National Building Research Institute of the CSIR and is divided into three phases: an initial investigation of selected sites in the field in order to assess the problem and the logistics of a conservation programme; experimentation with various methods both in the Laboratory and in the field; preservation in the field.
