Abstract

This paper describes the design specifications and function of the new Australian National Gallery currently under construction in Canberra. The four-level gallery on a site of 2 hectares has a floor area of 20,573m2 of which 7,000 m2 are exhibition space. The gallery is air-conditioned 24 hours per day. Particular details are provided in the conservation laboratory which is situated on the top floor of the gallery.
