Abstract
Describes the techniques which have been used in the conservation and restoration of rock art sites in Western Australia, and covers the removal of graffiti from both engravings and paintings, the cleaning of paintings, removal of industrial pollutants from limestone sites, lichen removal and control, modification of site environments to stop exfoliation and the use of silicone resins to stabilize paintings on exposed rock surfaces. Test procedures used for particular treatments are also discussed.
