Abstract
This investigation explored the use of improved sample preparation methods and modern FTIR instruments with spectral databases for collecting better quality FTIR spectra and identifying unknown adhesive samples obtained from archaeological pottery. In addition the identity of a possible contaminant in HMG B72 was explored by employing a full spectrum of analysis techniques that aimed to unambiguously identify this possible additive, and determine how this contamination had occurred.
