Rachel Spano: Queensland President

Rachel Spano is currently AICCM QLD President and a professional member of AICCM, employed by The State Library of Queensland as Senior Conservator.

Rachel graduated with B. App. Sc. in Conservation of Cultural materials (Paper) at University of Canberra in 1998. After which she worked at the National Library of Australia from 1999 – 2007. During this time Rachel worked in the areas of preventive conservation, binding coordinator, exhibition conservator and paper conservator.

Rachel then worked in private conservation, with Kim Morris at Art & Archival Pty Ltd. It was during this time that Rachel focused on preventive care and treatment of archival heritage and artworks distributed in private collections.

In 2010 Rachel commenced at the State Library of Queensland as Exhibition Conservator.

Rachel has personal drive and passion for public education and care for distributed heritage in private collections. Working at the State Library of Queensland there are many opportunities for public outreach.

As an active AICCM member, Rachel believes it’s important that AICCM serves not only its members but also the public by raising the profile of conservation.
